(272 posts)Ellie Krieger recipes are pretty much hit or miss as far as I'm concerned. I try them because they're healthy, and some have become staples, but some are godawful. So we'll see with this one. It has mushrooms and spinach, so I don't need to make a salad.

(146,218 posts)I don't think I have ever used a recipe by Rachel Ray that came out even OK.

(50,130 posts)It was like nachos, only she used potato chips, cheese, and (IIRC) sauerkraut.
Honestly, her food is mostly grossly bad nasty pub. Once in a while I watch her show for a particular guest. She actually had Sara Moulton on last month. That was a treat.

(146,218 posts)I made the mistake of buying one of her cookbooks when she first started getting some attention. Not a thing in it that I liked. And then she just started to annoy me.
I think she's had more than her 15 minutes of fame.

(50,130 posts)Three kinds of cheese: bleu, cheddar, and parmigiano reggiano. That in itself is annoying. Two bags of kettle chips, some hot sauce, a sprinkle of diced carrots, celery, scallions.

(146,218 posts)I recently had some kettle chips with rosemary and fresh parmesan, and they were good. But three kinds of cheese and diced vegetables? I don't think so.

We are celebrating the triplets' mother's birthday at her house and her husband (a professional chef) is cooking.
On edit: It was beef tenderloin, roasted rare; baked potatoes; asparagus (for those who like it, I don't); and salad.

(24,146 posts)i'll probably wind up going to dad's for dinner so i can check a laptop since mine went boom. my sister works from home and will be working tonight, so it'll be something that's easy enough for me to cook and clean up on my own. i'm thinking either a tri-tip roast with root veggies or chicken tortilla soup, but i'll have to talk to everyone to see what they want.

(50,130 posts)No trip to the store this weekend, so it's pantry meals.
I browned 3/5 pound of ground angus beef,S&P, added 3 cloves minced garlic, a big tablespoon Italian seasoning, some of my stash of frozen fresh basil leaves, a sprig of fresh rosemary, a can of diced tomatoes, 3 oz of tomato paste, and half a bottle of leftover cheap merlot.
Simmered for an hour, and it was thickened and very aromatic. Served it with Dreamfields rotini and some fresh-grated parmagiano reggiano.
I think it was the best out-of-the cupboard meat sauce I've ever concocted. I attribute that to the cheap merlot.
