Had a great time and ate and ate and ate!
First, the food at Jazz Fest was outstanding, as usual. My favorites:
crawfish monica
conchon de lait poboy
Nachitoches Meat Pies
All washed down with strawberry lemonade, frozen daquiris or ice cold beer.
Several recommendations for eating out. Went to Domilise's Poboys (twice - :blush .
Had a pork sausage poboy the first time and oysters the second. Both excellent.
Oysters on the half shell at Cooter Brown's are always a great choice. Fresh, fat and salty.
Very disappointing meal at Restaurant One. Had some good write ups and was close by. Should have known better when I found out it could accommodate a party of 8 on Saturday night during Jazz Fest. Enough said.
Greatest meal was at Vincent's. Every bite was outstanding and they serve free martinis at lunch. It looks like a pizza joint from the outside, but is truly one of the best restaurants in the city.
Everything we had was spectacular, but I have to give special kudos to the crab and corn bisque, cannelloni, and salmon.
Of course, several trips were made to Camellia Grill for omelets, pecan waffles, grits and cheeseburgers. Beignets were never too far away and the frozen daiquiri shop was a block and half away.
And, to top it off, we had not one, but two phenomenal crawfish boils during the time we were there!
And I still didn't get to go everywhere I wanted, lol.
One last thing, Abita has a new beer which is strawberry flavored. I know that sounds weird, but it is excellent.

(146,218 posts)I much prefer staying uptown and the streetcar wasn't running anyway (classic new orleans - no street car during major event, lol).

(146,218 posts)My favorite new orleans italian by far is Mosca's, but it's a drive. Will check out Irene's next year when I think my son and his fiance will be getting married (St Louis Cathedral, cher!).

(22,057 posts)and its right around the corner from our favorite hotel, The Provincial. Just the thought of it makes me hungry.
We actually saw a marriage proposal there one night and the newly engaged asked us to take a photo for them. Our elderly waiter was SOOO amusing in his reaction!

was there a couple years back and somewhat disappointed. It rained up until Sunday - so Sunday was JAM-PACKED. Mud and people everywhere. But really did enjoy a local cajun-zydeco group that plays there annually - their name escapes me but their music was infectious.

(146,218 posts)I first saw her about 30 years ago and, imho, she just gets better and better.
There was a lot of rain this year as well, but we found a great space on Sunday to make base camp and the ground was relatively dry.
There is talk of moving the event to city park, which would help a lot with the crowd and parking issues.
Was it Beausoleil you saw?

(20,411 posts)I've got to get myself to New Orleans one of these days. I had a chance to go in 2005 but it was July and I thought maybe it would be better to visit in cooler weather, but then Katrina hit and I never did get around to planning a visit.
What exactly is crawfish monica? Looks like mac and cheese with crawfish.
