(5,231 posts)I LOVE steak salads. One I used to eat when I worked at a large corporate office building is one of the few things I can't stop eating. (Therefore, I make it sparingly.) But it's awesome.
It's a "hot/cold" salad idea. The base greens are romaine or any combination of hearty lettuces that can take a little heat from the sauteed accompaniments.
Here's the rest:
Make a honey-mustard dressing (mayo, honey, mustard, seasonings you like). Make it a bit thin.
For the saute:
Infuse some olive oil with garlic, however much you like (I like a lot). Strain and reserve the infused oil.
Use the garlic oil to saute some sliced red onion, sliced mushroom, julienne carrot; however crisp-tender you like it.
Use more of the garlic oil to saute some steak strips (or, easier yet, brush the garlic oil on the steak and grill/broil it, rest it, and then cut into strips).
Top the cold lettuces with the warm red onion, mushrooms, carrot and steak. Then top with the honey-mustard dressing.
I'm not sure why this works, but to me at least, it's addictive.
