more potatoes on top. Savory herbs. Baked then run under the broiler just enough to crust up the top a bit.

Tomorrow I plan to do a parsnip/potato puree.

I'm on a root vegetable kick. Rutabagas next?

We're going out, too. We are going to our favorite Portuguese restaurant where I will probably have the usual. Oh well, makes me happy.

So garlic shrimp. Maybe some sangria. Big salad with balsamic and artichoke hearts. Homemade potato chips. And as usual, the vegetables will be green beans, cauliflower, a few snap peas, etc.

She is working on her math homework right now. Then requested homemade chicken soup...wanted something hot to get her vocal chords warmed up. . Plus the fact the got some. New gear on her braces so her teeth hurt.

is up. They're (NOAA) calling it at 26 degrees. Exceptional though not unknown on the Central Coast. I live in a 100 year old bungalow.

Good time to bake something. And set a soup on to simmer...

18 degs for the low tonight on the High Desert... tomorrow's low? 14F.

Shit happens, but MAN...I'm tired of paying PG&E. Electricity is cheaper than gas heat these days.

Thanks, Enron... Fuckers.

i cobbled it together based on the chickpea soup recipe elleng posted the other day.

chickpeas, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, celery, onion and garlic with salt, pepper, crushed red pepper and basil paste. i'm going to serve it over rice. i can't wait for it to be ready.

edit: and i just put a batch of special brownies in the oven.
