Related: About this forumIs Karo Corn Syrup the same thing as "HFCS"?
I've always wondered about this. Is Karo Corn Syrup which is sold in the supermarket the same as High Frutcose Corn Syrup? And if it is, why don't they call it HFCS?

(36,827 posts)Both Karo and HFCS are made from corn starch using enzymatic processes, but they are not the same thing. The primary sweetener in Karo is glucose. HFCS uses a different enzymatic process to produce more fructose which makes the syrup sweeter.

There was research on this 2-3 years ago, but it got buried. The calories may be the same, but the effect on the body is not.

(15,949 posts)Karo does not say there is HFCS because it doesn't contain any. That's probably why it is pricier than the other corn syrups on the market, which states on the label that it contains HFCS. I will only purchase Karo syrup because it doesn't contain HFCS.
My hubby bought me some Betty Crocker Corn Syrup. It contains HFCS I used it for one recipe of divinity and had to not use it again because it made my legs break out in a rash, they became swollen and they hurt.
