(35,667 posts)Sounds like good comfort food, pinto.
It's raining off and on here, so I cooked dinner early because I was hoping to get outside later if it clears off.
I made a stir fry dish--sliced pork tenderloin with broccoli. It also has garlic and red onion. The pork had been rubbed with peppercorn. I parboiled the broccoli and then plunged it into iced water so it would stay bright green.
The odd thing about this recipe (for me, anyway) was that it called for the pork to be "velveted." That means dipping it briefly into hot oil on the stove. So I did that, but I didn't notice any big taste difference.
Wish the RG was around so I could ask him about that. He's on the road in TX, and reports a delicious meal of fried oysters and quail at some restaurant (Brownsville?) south of Austin, I think he said.

(106,886 posts)Return to a boil for ~ 1 minute. Pull the meat, add whatever spice rub you like and set aside. Assemble all the other stuff for the stir fry. Slice the meat to match the size of the veggie pieces.
Hot oil - brown the meat, add the veggies. Turn all throughout the fry. It's an action dish. The parboil helps the meat and veggies finish at the same time, without any being over or under done.

And the world's best dessert - strawberry rhubarb (from my garden) crumble. First strawberries of the season.

(106,886 posts)Two steady (commercial) crops in my area. Mine are just re-blooming after a lull. I have ~ 10 in a half wine barrel. Should really knock them out and re-pot or at least top dress.

(20,234 posts)basically strawberries and rhubarb with a little sugar and flour in the bottom of baking cups, and the top was oatmeal, butter, brown sugar and flour mashed together. I wish I'd left the flour out of the top crumble though. It wasn't bad, but it gave it more of a cake than granola-ish texture.

(8,646 posts)Just something I saw on TV and the kids wanted to try it. They loved it. It was too bland for me, despite the garlic and thyme. But that's okay I only had a small piece then snacked on pea pods instead.
