Related: About this forumWhy buy peanut butter? It is so easy to make and so much better!
I put one bag of Trader Joe half salted roasted peanuts
in the food processor fitted with the metal chopping blade. Pulse a few times then let it run for about a minute - it will look like coarse dry couscous in texture.
Remove the cover, add 1 tbsp canola oil, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp molasses - run the processor for a minute, scrape down the sides, then run for another minute or until the desired texture.
Takes all of about 3 minutes and the flavor is unreal.

(29,414 posts)I've watched videos on making it, yet haven't tried. Making "ice cream" is fun though, if a "bit" loud
Thanks for the recipe. I'll have to try it, once I get some bulk peanuts (no Trader Joes here, and I'm not a member of CostCo.)

(60,015 posts)and the Ninja seems to work just as well. Our Cheapo food processor was perfect for the peanut butter - the serrated metal blades did a nice job

(149,636 posts)Of course you can't add oil or honey or molasses to their machine, so there is that. It does make very good plain pb. And they get to clean up the mess!
Plus, of course, you don't ever have to worry about it separating, just as with the home-ground type.

(6,362 posts)I just toss in the peanuts (or almonds) and let the food processor go. It'll get to the dry stage... then a big ol' blob rolling around for a while... but it *will* eventually turn to butter. It takes more than 3 minutes though and the processor gets a little warm so I worry sometimes that I might burn up the motor. But I like that I'm just eating peanuts too.

(23,156 posts)I have a very small kitchen, and there's no room for anything but the basics. I dream of having an ice-cream maker, but there is simply no space.
I'll also say that I eat very little peanut butter, and so if I want some, buying a jar of the commercial stuff makes sense for me.
But as someone who does a lot of cooking from scratch, I get it. So those of you who want to make your own peanut butter, go ahead, and enjoy!

(164 posts)a few years ago and after the initial 3-4 batches I have not used it. Like you, my kitchen real estate is very tight. I think it is stored in the basement now

(23,156 posts)I bought an ice cream maker and used it also only 3 or 4 times. It stayed behind when I moved to this smaller place, but I will admit that sometimes I wish I still had it.

(20,453 posts)I have one of those Bamix immersion with a mill blade. I've actually spun powered sugar with the thing, so I'm sure I can make this in small batches. I have the ingredients, and I'd love to compare the taste.
Thanks!

(114,904 posts)I make my own just like you make your peanut butter except I don't add anything. Whole roasted unsalted or lightly sea salted almonds.
