what's for dinner - saturday, nov 15th?

i'm really tempted to throw a pork roast in the crock pot, but if i do, i've got to get it going now so we can eat at a reasonable time (it usually takes four to five hours but dinner at eight isn't unusual for us). i want to test a 30-minute dinner roll recipe, so i'd do that on the side and likely mashers.

i need something homey on a night where it's supposed to drop below zero.

hope you all are staying warm

Mainly because we forgot what we were going to do with the sausage, and the store was out of the regular hamburger rolls we normally buy.

We had a hard frost this morning, and we're looking at a possible record low 'high for the day' tomorrow or the next day, I think they said. I hope all the birds and squirrels have adequately padded their nests for the winter.

Oh, and we're supposed to get a couple of inches of snow tomorrow, but I'll believe it when I see it.

it's been frosty and we've gotten about six inches of snow since tuesday. we had a very mild fall and, although i know the cold had to come sooner or later, i wish we could have eased into it.

All this talk of cast iron pans and such stuck in my head. So, I went to Trader Joe's today and bought some pizza dough and mozz.

I'm going to load it up with Italian sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, black olives, mushrooms, and tomatoes. I'm making the sauce right now from crushed tomatoes...

I should have a lot leftover, but c'mon... it's pizza! Who cares!?!

Ever since I discovered that reheating in the cast iron skillet was the way to go, I've been in love.

Sounds great. Wish you could send some my way. I'm going out for pizza, but it's the very thin crust kind. I love that, but I would also like a deep dish now and then.

That sounds like an excellent Sat. night meal and it's terrific that you're making your own sauce, too. Store-bought sauces:

So easy to make a good tomato sauce, too.

As to staying warm, it hit 90 today, so I'm doing a-ok in the warm department.

Chicken breasts and sliced mushrooms with blue cheese. Sauteed 'em in butter/olive oil combo. Simple. No elaborate clean-up.

Glass of white wine.

Well, OK, two glasses of white wine.
