What's for Christmas dinner 2014?

Just like the last 60 years we will have turkey (except that it will be fried), stuffing casserole, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, fresh green beans with almonds, dinner rolls, cranberry relish, pecan pie with ice cream or whipped cream. If my grandson from Washington state was here we would have to add baked spaghetti squash, but this year they and their 4 year old Aurora are awaiting their blessed boy Koan in January. I hope to have many Christmas dinners with all my great grandchildren and hope all DUers are blessed with family and friends.

our 'old' neighborhood where there IS a Chinese restaurant, between Child's Play toy store and Bread and Chocolate cafe (for breakfast!) And a movie up the street.

Lucky that your family is together, mine isn't but will visit with them soon, 2 new littluns.

as I suspected they might be even tho on-line said they'd be open. So had coffee + lousy chocolate chip cookie at theater for breakfast, and quick appetizers at Chinese restaurant between movies, so planning on something much better tomorrow, yet to be determined! Hope yours has been good, grasswire!

Wish I could be there with all of you for my favorite classical christmas dinner.

We are going to a gringo pot luck. The big dinner here was last night, Buen Noche, to the gringos have to make due.

There will be turkey, of course, and I really am hoping for homemade tamales. We are bringing deviled eggs.

After we eat, the restaurant will play santa and hand out over 160 gifts to the local children.

Should be wonderful. I hope yours is equally as wonderful.

My love to everyone.

we're doing enchiladas w/ green sauce, rice, beans and corn tonight.

For breakfast today, I made a breakfast casserole-type thing

10 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 16 oz refrigerated breakfast biscuits 10 count ***DO NOT COOK FIRST***
4 scallions
2 cups shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese
If you’re into the meats – cooked center cut bacon or cooked sausage
11×17 pan, sprayed with cooking spray (Note: I think a 9×13 works better, but it might need to bake a little longer)
1. Mix your eggs and milk in a large bowl. Cut each biscuit into fours and add it to the bowl. I like to do this before I cook the bacon or cut up the scallions – give the biscuits some time to really soak in the eggs.
2. Cut up your scallions, shred your cheese, add salt, pepper, 3tsp chili powder, cook and break up your bacon (or sausage). Add everything to the bowl.
3. Mix it all up and pour into your pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes .. closer to 30 so it isn't runny

Saturday is the big family gathering with about a hundred of us, my 90+ year old aunts, most of my 15 cousins, all their families, etc. Five generations. We have it in the fireside room at the aunts' nursing home, and it is a comfortable place with pool table, ping pong, and lots of room for the kids to run.

So I have to gear up for that potluck. I always take pies, and something nostalgic that our grandmother made. Last year it was Boston brown bread and Indian pudding.

Bisquick, shredded cheese and sausage all mixed up (with a little water), then baked in little balls in the oven. It really seemed like it also needed either some sort of dipping sauce, or drizzled with something, honey maybe.

Dinner is going to be monte cristo sandwiches.

The sister and her family took a Christmas meal over to the parents for lunch, herb and garlic crusted roasted lamb, rosemary and garlic potato wedges, some sort of green bean thing also in a Greek sort of vein. While we're mongrels genetically, I don't think we've got any Greek anywhere in the family, so I'm not sure where that choice came in.
