i had a sandwich late yesterday afternoon, so i didn't cook those pork chops last night. i'm thinking i'll pan fry them, make some garlic mashers and nuke some frozen peas.
i'll be doing a bit of cooking/food assembly this weekend. i'm putting together some hummus, tabbouleh and tzatziki for the husband's lunches next week. dinner tomorrow will be chicken tenders and potato salad, but i'm also going to put a pork roast in the crock pot with the goal of not having to cook again until thursday. the snow is coming down and only supposed to get nastier as the day goes by, so i might as well make use of the time.
hope you are all warm and dry!

(14,733 posts)I already shoveled 4+ inches of snow, which is actually a decent fall for around here (SW Ohio), and it just keeps coming. Our town isn't always so great about keeping roads plowed, so we made sure we had a fair amount of food on hand. The only thing I'd kind of like but won't have this winter is a generator, but we're between a substation and a school, so we usually get our power back pretty quickly if it does go out.

(24,146 posts)but it's just slush right now, so nothing really to clear yet. i went to the store after work yesterday and it looked like it had been hit by locusts. i understand eggs, milk, butter, etc, but why on earth was the store out of bananas and orange bell peppers?

(14,733 posts)So we get the alerts as soon as the National Weather Service issues them, rather than waiting for tv news. Lets us hit the stores before most folks even know an alert has been issued. But there was enough warning on this one that we did our shopping a couple days ago, when none of the shelves were empty.

(2,016 posts)Leftover pot roast, leftover spuds, steaming up some elderly broccoli, etc etc. A little of this, a little of that. Maybe some nibbling on limp celery w/ hummus before actual dinner. Grocery shopping tomorrow!

(146,218 posts)We've been out of produce for awhile, so now that we have some, we are craving a salad.
Making some bacon bits to sprinkle on the top and not sure what kind of dressing I will make.
Enjoy your cooking!

(35,677 posts)I worked all day. It was nice to come home to a fully cooked meal. The RG had made duck. In addition, he made short ribs. This was served with mixed vegetables, which he had flavored with oregano and one other herb which I'm too tired to remember.
Our lawyer friend was here, and he brought some very good bread. First we had appetizers, which was prosciutto and Genoa salami on the Italian bread.
Then for dessert we had this most interesting dish: Asian pear and banana. It was macerated in Drambuie and confectioners sugar. This is so good I will give you the specifics: one of those small bottles of Drambuie and 2 T of confectioners sugar. This will make a unique dessert that you won't soon forget. I loved it and hope to make it on my own soon.
