Soy, Soy everywhere!

A few days ago I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Not bad but enough to pay more attention to diet. Now on medication and will be from now on.

I have known allergies, one of them is Soy. Have avoided the obvious culprits but today I went through the cupboards and refrigerator. My gawd, the stuff is everywhere. My mayonnaise, Progresso soups, frozen egg rolls, ad infinitum. I guess that I will have to bring a magnifying glass to the grocery store from now on. The print on half the stuff I buy is too small to read with my regular glasses.

I admit, I didn't look closely to a lot of the labels--except for sodium content. This has been an eye-opener. Lots of things going to the food pantry. I'm too old to mess with this baloney. What happened to real food and how did soy become such a big part of the food we buy? I cook lots of fresh food and do not eat much junk food. Love the "and/or" canola oil, soybean oil or.....
OK, which is it?

Phooey!

And, yes, the stuff is absolutely everywhere. In case you haven't seen one of the many lists of aliases, here's one I remember my friend mentioning:

Another surprising source she told me about is commercial liquid eggs and commercial pancake mixes -- the kind usually found in restaurant breakfasts. Whenever we'd go out for breakfast, she'd always ask if the eggs were in the shell and what were the exact ingredients in the pancakes.

Good luck!

Canola oil is one of my problem foods and it's in everything. It triggers absolutely outrageous GERD, an erupting volcano under my sternum. I've had to read labels on everything to make sure they don't use that crap in my peanut butter or mayo. If I can't find anything that uses different oils, I have to make it at home or go without.

I hate the and/or labeling, too, especially for oils. I need to know, the suffering is all too real if a canola oil substitution has been made.
