Same thing as last night--the RG bought way too many steaks, so I have two very large, prime cuts. The trouble is that I'm not one to have a whole steak. I like to fix it like the Chinese do, with just a little meat and lots of vegetables. Would it be sacrilege if I did that with these two pieces of beef? Like make Chinese beef with broccoli? He's on his way to Portland, OR, so I can do whatever I want.
I guess the question boils down to this: when you have a high-quality cut of meat, should it be enjoyed as a steak or is it just as good when it's made into another type of dish, like the aforementioned.
Also leftover is potato salad and a big plate of antipasto, with all kinds of Italian cold cuts. Apple crumb pie for dessert.
We had a great time last night, and had our lawyer friend over. He brought a bottle of limoncello. Or is it limoncelli? Anyway, iced cold it is the most wonderful summer after-dinner drink. I was careful to only have one as I didn't want a headache this a.m.
If it weren't for that concern I could have sipped it all night!
Also, tip for any limoncelli lovers: I was in Stop 'n Shop this a.m. and noticed they have a whole line-up of new limoncelli-flavored items: soda, cookies, and more things that I can't recall. I so wanted to buy some, but I no longer buy things with sugar in them. But for those of you who do, I thought I'd mention it.

(24,146 posts)but we can rarely afford a prime cut, so it's a treat for us. grill it to just under mid-rare, top with caramelized onions and mushrooms with mashed or baked and a green veggie.

(2,016 posts)But I bought a filet mignon once and sliced it ultra thin, for a pho-style soup. I let the hot broth "cook" the beef when poured on top. It was the best cut for such a soup!

(2,016 posts)with meatballs and hot sausage. Probably with rigatoni, and tons of pecorino romano on top. I still have a few fresh mushrooms, so that will be going into the sauce too.
"Limoncello" - I think my parents put that in my baby bottle. Everyone made their own when I was growing up. That, and homemade vino.

(111,339 posts)and we've gone from wet 60s to hot, dry 90s in just two days. I have salmon fillets thawing and will broil them and serve them with rice and peas, simple fare for a hot day in the high desert.

(9,839 posts)no vegetables of any kind, but will eat desserts of all kinds. Since it was his birthday, I bought frozen fried chicken tenders (bleah) and he did eat part of one. I guess they weren't the kind he favors. The rest of us had grilled pork tenderloin, black eyed peas, boiled red potatoes, sauteed cabbage with kale and tomato/pepper salad. The birthday cake was Hershey's Cocoa chocolate cake/with chocolate icing for dessert. If anyone needs a great chocolate cake recipe, you can get it from the back of the cocoa can or go to Hershey's website. It is an easy cake, comes out perfect every time, and everyone loves it.
The dogs racked up today. Each got a chicken tender. I sent the rest home with the 8 yr. old nephew. If his parents don't deal with his poor eating habits, they are going to have an obese, diabetic kid on their hands.

(1,706 posts)fresh asparagus with a little more lemon, and funeral potatoes - rich, junky processed food but a good foil for the salmon and asparagus.
