Did you know there's a german pastry called "Americans"?

?v=1-0

In Germany, they are called "Amerikaner". People rarely bake them themselves, but every bakery-store sells them as a basic sweet pastry.
The recipe can be found online. For example:

- Stir 100g butter and 100g sugar until combined.
- While stirring, add 2 eggs, 1 pinch vanilla-sugar, 1 pinch salt.
- Mix 1 package powder for instant vanilla-pudding with a dash of milk. Whisk until creamy. Stir into dough.
- Mix 250g flour and 1 pinch of baking soda. Stir into dough. Add a little bit extra flour if the dough is too soft.
- Form large cookies with a spoon.
- 15-20 minutes at ~180°C.

Cover one side in dark chocolate icing and the other side in sugar-icing (lemon juice + fine icing sugar).

a Half Moon. The cake part is chocolate, perhaps Devil's Food cake, and it is my all time favorite bakery treat. Vastly better, in my opinion, than versions made with white cake. Alas, I almost never get to that mart of the country.
