But I remember one night we went crab fishing in the Laguna Madre with my dad and one of my uncles. six kids in all plus the adults. Each with a coleman lantern and a spear, walking in calf-deep waters throughout the night. Came back home with 400 plus blue crabs. Then the real work began; boiling cracking and picking 400 crabs so we could store the results of our bounty before going to sleep.

Good times.

Most I've/we've ever had was 2 dozen, and those in crabhouses! My neighbor puts traps out, and my daughter and son in law caught 1 a couple of years ago, here in southern Maryland.

The crab's eyes shine in the light of the coleman lanterns. Then you spear them and toss them in the tub floating behind you. We used brass soldering rods as spears. They make a very small hole so it doesn't spoil the catch. You can also bend the rod into a hook and grab them by the claw. But you run the chance of the crab dropping the claw to escape.

This was in Matamoros, Mexico, right across the Rio Grande in the southernmost tip of Texas.

the only seasoning I want is Old Bay!!! I was born in Baltimore, raised on the Eastern Shore. And my Grandfather crabbed for a living in the Chincoteague Bay.

When we lived in Alaska, we'd eat King crab and queen crab, always from the shell. Clean off the table, spread top with newspapers, put the kettle of water on to boil, add plenty of Old Bay. Drop the crabs in the boiling water. Melt some butter, put in a squeeze of lemon juice and a shake of paprika. Lay the nutcrackers and paring knives on the table. Give everyone a plate and little bowl of melted butter mix Serve up the crab legs, open a bottle of good white wine and feast.

Have had crab here Texas, not as good and very expensive.
