I've misplaced my OLD NYT recipe, was great, more complex and time consuming. You're quite right to add onions!

I will make it again, but I think it needs a bit more garlic, definitely onions and maybe mushrooms. YMMV.
I will save & make this recipe again.

(130,917 posts)As I recall, 'my' old recipe, from NYT around 30 years ago !!! contained chopped carrots, peppers (green, tho I rarely use them for cooking now, due to bitterness,) onions, garlic, and cans of tomatoes. Cooked for a long time, so not similar to 'this' recipe.
