What's for Dinner, New Year's Eve, Sun., Dec. 31, 2017

If we can find a good restaurant that will take us at this hour, then that is what we will do. I want to have ethnic food, such as Indian or Thai. I am picking up the Resident Gourmand from the airport, who is coming in from Switzerland.

If we can't, I've purchased what we need for leek-potato soup and I also have four Coleman chicken breasts. He'll think of something interesting to do with them. Even if we just did chicken nuggets, making up our own sauces, that would be good. I would also like macaroni and cheese, and I have what it takes for that, too. There is Talenti and cream puffs in the freezer for dessert.

and a salad. NYE I want to keep it simple. Ive already cooked for all the holidays.

And the myriad of appetizers that were either premade, or come out of box or bag.

But mac and cheese sounds so good right now. Wish I had thought of it.
Smoked gouda is REALLY good mixed into it!

and leftover (always better) homemade vegetarian soup. White hot chocolate w/candy canes for desert. Taking it easy on this 7 degree day. Happy New Year!

I picked up a beautiful little top round steak at Aldi's and it's just the right size for a medium sized stroganoff.

With salad and garlic bread. I tried making double-chocolate cookies from a Ghirardelli mix; they're dusted in powdered sugar and they came out immense! How'm I going to have some of my birthday Godiva after that? And maybe a White Russian tonight.

Have cooked it all separately in the Instant Pot (well, not the bacon), then will combine the peas and bacon in the skillet. There weren't any collards at the store, so I have turnip greens instead. They are flavorful and mild.

Dessert is a maybe but it will be my "fruitcake cookies" - slice & bake shortbread with candied and dried fruits and nuts. My recipe makes two rolls but I've only baked one so far.

Got some breast strips to make 'corn-flake fried chicken'
and some nice red peppers to roast and add to alfredo fettucini
broccoli for vegie

even though tonight is my Bday, no cake or dessert on the menu. maybe I'll make some cookies tomorrow

Crock pot pork chops in balsamic vinegar (falling off the bone tender), cinnamon apples, baked beans, coleslaw, yeast rolls, 3 different kinds of pie, cookies, chocolates (OMG!)

But I will be digging blackeyed peas from the garden out of the freezer for tomorrow.
