What's for Dinner, Sat., Jan. 13, 2018

For starters, bruschetta made with the cherry tomatoes from the upstate NY greenhouse. Served alongside homemade potato salad. (I don't think we've made potato salad in years!)

For the main entree, pasta with tomato sauce (ragu).

Dessert is tres leches cake and tea.

Drop old Bay biscuits, also a first time make.
Snowed lasy night, hot soup & buttered biscuits sound good.

Definitely use parchment paper. I bake mine longer than the recipe.

With Wisconsin sharp cheddar, sliced red onion, lettuce and beefsteak tomato.

Baked beans and kosher pickles.

My favorite dessert: Klondike bars!

Eat well, friend!

Freshly made blueberry muffins.

Freshly baked apple pie with 5-year-aged cheddar cheese wedge later in the evening.

Sure makes the house smell yummy. We are still in the deep freeze at night...negative temps.

Navy and Pinto, with chunks of ham and the usual veggies.

I had no stock or broth in the freezer so I used a carton of chicken stock. It worked OK, but I think I overshot the salt a bit because of using it.

(arm roast) with mashed potatoes and gravy. I sautéed a bag of spinach with some garlic and added tamari and a few drops of toasted sesame oil when it was mostly cooked down. And grapefruit.

Here in Florida I made a salad of red potatoes and green beans vinaigrette (which coincidentally is my lunch today, and tomorrow if my husband doesn't get it) and served it with some smoked sausage that didn't make it into my own soup pot last time, as well as sliced avocado whose best day had arrived.

Desert was the vanilla bean Scotch ice cream recipe from Serious Eats, but that was my last bean and until the price drops back down from the mesophere that'll definitely be the last time. Priced them last week and the Scotch is much the cheaper ingredient.
