I had a late lunch with a friend, so if I fix anything later tonight, it will just be a salad.
However, for lunch we went to an Italian restaurant and I had melted brie with cranberries, walnuts, pear bits, and thyme sprinkled over it. Also cheese-stuffed peppadews. Shrimp with cannellini in tomato sauce. Oh, and arancini (stuffed rice balls). They were stuffed with mozzarella and sausage. Our waiter was terrific and took good care of us.
My friend and I shared a bottle of wine. After lunch we went to her house so I could see her gardens and meet her new puppies, one a year-old and the other six-months. So adorable!

(35,685 posts)A big part of any recipe is finding all the ingredients--do we have them all, if not, purchasing them, etc. This would solve that part of it and give them some pretty quick feedback on their cooking efforts!
Also, in regard to packages like Plated or Blue Apron, I noticed in a supermarket near me that they are now featuring these kits. They had about four or five different types and they were priced at around $12.99-13.99. They were packaged in plastic containers about 12" x 10". On the top was a colorful picture of the meal being sold, and because it was a plastic container, you could see in the sides to look at the way they did the various ingredients.
The types of meals they were offering were pretty standard--nothing too exotic. So for the unusual stuff, I guess one would have to direct order from Plated.
Yes, it's nice to have it delivered and completely avoid the store altogether, but I imagine this is somewhat of a cost savings.

(55,014 posts)but I think we are too rural, mine doesn't seem to be participating. The pricing varies for how many meals you get, we get 2 meals of 4 servings each and I think it runs a hair under $10 per serving shipping included. That is higher than my normal budget but a hell of a lot less than same quality take-out or going out. And like you said, teaching them various cooking skills beyond microwaving crap food.
If anybody is interested I have 5 boxes I can send free (though you have to PM me an email address and you have to subscribe and buy at least one more box yourself)
self edit - I looked on the website and it says there is no obligation so maybe you don't even have to buy another box??? (you do have to subscribe but can cancel anytime.)
reminds me of the couple of times I forgot to hit "skip this week" - it works like the old columbia house record club, remember that? so when we have that happen we call the box a record club selection LOL. and like those were, sometimes they suck and sometimes you get something to try that is wonderful.
