Personally, I'd skip pureeing the carrots.

It does seem to leave out some essential information. I gather you discard the potato and the onion, but it doesn't specify. Also, not sure exactly what it means when it says "You know when it's done by tasting."

I think I'm an experienced enough cook to figure this out as I make it.

What I think I'd like best is that it would make up a rather large amount of soup which would freeze up quite nicely. I live alone, and what I love about soups and stews is that ability to freeze up individual portions.

Chicken, chicken stock, veggies, some herbs and egg noodles. No tomato.
