What's for Dinner, Sun., July 14, 2019

Cold plate. On it is chicken meatballs with dill; pork strips that were breaded in panko. With it goes wasabi sauce which has been mixed with mayo to cut down on the "hot" factor.

Several vegetable salads: one is Asian coleslaw with miso; another is chopped zucchini, onion, tomato, cucumber, and celery.

Dessert will be blueberries over a little vanilla ice cream.

To hot to crank up the oven. I haven't made homemade pizza on the grill in a long time. These are delicious.

I met with my Liberal Ladies Who Lunch Group at a local burger grill (legendary burgers, owned by Good Democrats)
and had a magnificent jalapeno cheddar burger with house made potato chips.

Out Standing!

We meet on the Second Sunday of the month. Sometimes we have a full room; for some reason we only had 6 today.. maybe they were all home watching WImbledon. We had it on in the room w/o sound.

This is a strictly social group. I belong to another women's group which is an affiliate of National Federation of Democratic Women and Texas Democratic Women. We are the largest TDW chapter in Texas and one of the largest nationally. We met yesterday and handed out two scholarships to fine young Democratic women. Now we will begin the serious fundraising

this is a report of what we had in Berlin a week ago. We had lunch in a Turkish bakery/cafe. My husband wasn't feeling the greatest, so he had chicken soup - chicken and the usual vegetables - what was unusual was that it was flavored with dill. It was accompanied by a small dish with cucumber and tomato, and also lemon quarters. Squeezing lemon in the soup added another great flavor to it. I had menemen, which is scrambled eggs with tomatoes, onions and peppers. What I had also had spicy sausage bits in it. I was wanting a light lunch, and this really fit the bill. It was accompanied by a bread ring maybe 6" across, covered in sesame seeds. Our son just had a cheeseburger.

We spent the afternoon at a shape-note singing, so afterwards we walked the one kilometer back to the Air BnB on the same street, this time stopping for dinner at a Yemeni restaurant. My husband and son had dishes of some kind of moist heat cooked lamb, on what I think of as biriyani rice - seasoned and yellow with orange flecks. I had a Yemeni salad - romaine, cucumber, tomatoes, green onions with an olive oil and lemon dressing.

Most Middle Eastern restaurants we saw in Berlin either did not offer beer or wine, or a very limited selection. Neither of these two restaurants did. The Yemeni restaurant specialized in fruit drinks, so my husband and son had mango shakes and I had a pureed strawberry drink, which was delicious.
