Related: About this forumRecipes with alcohol / wine as an ingredient ...
(this has been cross-posted in the Lounge)
A niece of mine is turning 21 next week (can't believe it) and I want to send her some recipes that include wine or alcohol as part of the cooking ingredients. She loves to cook!
Do you have any recipes you like that require wine, or sherry, or beer, bourbon, etc.?
And do you recommend any particular brands of the alcohol required for those recipes?
I'd be grateful for any suggestions you have..

(111,327 posts)as an appetizer. http://chinesefood.about.com/od/poultryrecad/r/drunkenchix.htm It's not a difficult thing to do and is really, really good. The hard part is waiting the 48 hours for the wine to penetrate the cooked chicken.

(7,093 posts)Beef Bourguignon. Both are made with Red Wine. The wine of choice is usually Cabernet but you may use a lighter kind such as Pinot Noir or Merlot.
Also, a fun yummy thing to make is French Onion Soup (It uses wine or brandy I believe).
For dessert, Souffle with Grand Manier/vanilla sauce.

(13,661 posts)Keep 'em coming! I'm going to collect these into a small book for her birthday ... along with maybe some of the ingredients!
Any brand of Lambrusco wine will work.
Lambrusco Chicken
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 C Lambrusco wine
3/4 C beef stock
1 med onion sliced
1/2 c Extra virgin olive oil
Saute onions in oil until they are beginning to color. Remove with slotted spoon and reserve. Dredge chicken breasts in flour and saute in oil until nicely browned on both sides. Add wine and simmer for three or four minutes until the alcohol dissipates. Add beef broth and return the sauteed onions. Cover and simmer for about 30 minutes.
I serve this dish with garlic mashed potatoes. Just toss a few garlic cloves in the potato cooking water and cook with the spuds. Mash the potatoes and garlic well then add a fistfull of grated Romano cheese. Mash until the cheese is incorporated. Add cream or milk and mash until well blended and smooth.

(146,218 posts)Slice not quite ripe bananas lengthwise
Melt butter and brown sugar in frying pan
Saute bananas until just cooked - they need to retain some firmness.
Pour on brandy or rum and ignite.
Make sure everyone is watching when you set it on fire and be careful
Serve hot with ice cream
Yummy!

Try it! It's really hard to do it wrong...
unless you catch yourself on fire. Easy on the alcohol and have a lid nearby.

(14,893 posts)As a matter of fact I made some yesterday, and it's very tasty.
it's easy to make and inexpensive. And there are a million recipes, some using red wine some white. I prefer mine with red.

(9,992 posts)For each guest, place a scoop of good quality vanilla ice cream in a bowl, sprinkle a little instant coffee on top, shave or grate some dark chocolate over that. Give each guest a little shot glass of Kahlua or dark rum to pour over their bowl.
