What's for dinner where you are?

(16,334 posts)so it'll be fish, prep undecided yet, and some broccoli salad, probably quinoa...I've really been obsessing about the flourless chocolate cake. Gotta see if I have everything I need.
What about you?

(22,163 posts)lots of leftover desserts. I think 90% of my family are on a diet, so I definitely overdid it with desserts yesterday. Fortunately, I loaded up a doggie bag for my Mom and m-i-l who are not on diets.

(4,074 posts)3 Packages Gardein Beefless tips
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons butter, divided us
16 oz portobello mushrooms, sliced
2 large sweet onions sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups Merlot
3 cups vegetable broth
Most of a small can tomato paste
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1 crumbled bay leaf
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoon parsley
I add the olive oil, 1 TBSP butter, onions, and mushrooms to a dutch oven on medium heat. Cook them for 8-10 minutes. Add beefless tips and cook for a couple of minutes. Add wine and turn up to high until wine is reduced by half. Turn down to medium. Mix remaining butter with flour and add. Add remaining ingredients. Cook on medium for maybe 20 minutes. Turn down to simmer and I usually let it simmer for a couple hours. You may need to turn up the heat for a little while if the sauce hasn't thicked enough. I serve it over egg noodles. It's one of my favorites.

(12,939 posts)I love meals like this, but most are meat-based. My oven in this apt is pretty bad so I esp appreciate stovetop type meals.

(35,724 posts)I don't want to use a traditional crust, so I think I'll use Mollie Katzen's potato crust.

Crusty bread.

Have my son for the evening so he's already polished off 12 hot wings, 2 french rolls and a huge bowl fruit(mangos, grapes, cantelope, pears). Madster has soccer tonight so she's getting picked up by her dad any minute, but she had to have some wings as a snack and a fruit smoothie.

(146,218 posts)My guest taught me to make these killer stuffed jalapeños with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and baked until crispy.
I have never gotten them quite right, so I'm going to use this opportunity for him to show me one more time.
Enjoy your fish and salad!

(146,218 posts)and it smelled up my kitchen.
OTOH, the stuffed jalpenos were perfect (the trick is letting them cook a really long time) and the spinach & orange salad was perfect.
We had a slow meal with a large bottle of wine then played Wii bowling.
Lots of fun! Wish you were here!

(135,060 posts)I'm getting really good at the Wii bowling and archery, so I'll be more prepared next if I'm invited for boat olympics.

(35,724 posts)I didn't get to make the quiche. My girlfriend called me and wanted to go out for sushi. So we went out and each had a Bento Box. Loved it: tuna roll, beef negamaki, dumplings, rice, vegetables tempura, plus, of course, salad and miso soup.
