Related: About this forumDaikon Radish
I love to try all sorts of new foods... embarrassed to say I had never had a daikon radish until today
Daikon shows significant antibacterial and antiviral properties. Laboratory experiments have shown that its extract displayed strong antibacterial activity against a host of diseases causing microbes like Hafnia alvei, Lactobacillus, and Bacillus thuringiensis as well as fungal species such as Penicillium lilacinum. Thanks to its antimicrobial properties, daikon is very effective in treating illnesses like respiratory issues.
bought one yesterday at the store and made a daikon radish salad this morning... so good!!
Daikon radish
carrots
ginger
toasted sesame seeds (I used black sesame seeds)
rice vinegar
garlic
a bit of Korean chili sauce

(51,627 posts)3. I used to watch Tony Bourdain's shows since 2002
and they always mentioned this ingredient in recipes that were Asian. Finally I had to branch out and I have been shopping at Asian supermarkets since he got me hooked. Yum!

(13,924 posts)4. I was surprised when I first started going to Asian stores, the variety of fruits and veg..
To me daikon was always long and skinny.. Well Korean daikon is short and fat.. Think of a large eggplant only in white. If you get 'em with the greens attached, it's great in Miso soup.
