What's for Dinner, Thurs., April 2, 2020
Here's a weird little story for you. I had to go out to get a couple greenhouse shelves this afternoon. The RG was cooking dinner while I was gone. I picked the shelves up (figured out how to do it with no human contact), and had a bit of a drive back home. While on the way, my mind was wandering as I traveled the empty streets.
I realized I was thinking about curry. Thinking about it, sniffing it. No Indian places around, so where was the curry aroma coming from?
Came home and the RG showed me the meatloaf we would be having for dinner. Yum, it has all kinds of chopped vegetables in it, like carrot, onion, and a few others. Then he showed me a roasted couple beets from the oven on a bed of coarsely ground salt. Cut a slice and gave me a taste. Very earthy and oh so delicious. Next up, he lifted a pot lid and I could see something like large orzo with a very orangy-yellow color. Umhmm....curry. Had curry leaves over it, too.
Was I picking up on his culinary creation while I was gone? Or it was just coincidence.
I made bruised kale salad to go with the meal. I cut the ribs out of baby kale yesterday and washed it, so today I only had to pour a little olive oil and salt over it and "massage" it. It also has toasted almonds and cranberries in it, plus a homemade dressing using shallots, garlic, lemon zest, etc.
