Related: About this forumwell hell, just lost the heating element to my oven
with a huge ham in the oven.
They just don't make appliances like they used to. We have an old refridge in our garage that we bought 15 years ago. It still works great. We bought a stainless steel side by side refridge for our main inside fridge and 3 years after purchase, the compressor went out luckily it was still under warrenty. We bought the stove at the same time and now we will be fixing it.

(20,234 posts)My oven failed tonight for the first time in ages - the pilot light went out in the oven part (which I realized after my chicken was sitting in it an hour, urgh). I tried to relight it which is usually no big deal but nothing would happen. The husband got mine going again - but it must be Oven Satan Day or something!

(20,234 posts)The top right pilot was out last week once, which I didn't think much about because it relit right away, but still that only happens once a year or so. And then this morning the left pilot was out. I don't understand! Why is the dead light rotating around my oven?!!

OTOH, if it's the electronic sparking device going out, they may all go out at the same time?

(15,943 posts)First time we paid someone to come and fix it. The 2nd and 3rd time we bought the part and hubby fixed it. It wasn't all that hard to fix and buying the part and doing it yourselves will save you time and money.
Hopefully you can do the same with yours.

(9,791 posts)I'm on the third replacement element. This ancient oven just keeps going. The timer hasn't worked in years but the oven temperature was still accurate the last time I checked it.
My 1 1/2 year old Maytag glass top countertop stove is on the fritz. The repairman will be here on Thursday to figure out why one burner won't work and fix it. No - they sure don't make applicances like they used to.

I think they just make appliances throw away anymore.
Meanwhile, (knock on wood) my washer/dryer are going on 15 years although I did have to replace the heating element in the dryer a couple months ago
