my sweet dim kitty spent the night outside and gave me quite the worry

i heard a cat crying last night while i was on the porch, looked around a bit and didn't see one and figured both of mine were inside. i should have noticed something was wrong last night when she didn't get in bed with us, but i was tired and it didn't click.

it definitely clicked when i woke up and she wasn't in bed with me, called the husband and he didn't see her this morning and she didn't come when i shook the treat bag or called.

by this point, i'm starting to freak out that she's either dead in a closet or did indeed get out and was hit by a car. i walked around the complex calling for her and i hear these pitiful little mews. i turn around and she's coming out from under a car in the parking lot. thank goodness she wasn't in the mood to play the chase game.

she's back inside now, sitting just inside the door and crying to go back out. i have no problem letting her out when we live in a place that's safe to do so, but we live at a major intersection now and i don't want her to get hit by a car.

i'm glad she's safe, but i do want to shake her a bit for worrying me.

1. Stay the course and resist the crying to go out. They'll get over it.

Best to stay inside, as you well know. Good kitty!

she is good at slipping out when she wants to. she knows i won't let her out, but that has never stopped her from trying.

You obviously love this cat very much! And I know they like to go outside. But what if you hadn't found her and never knew what happened to her? To me, that would be very hard.

I am glad that everything worked out this time!

and that's not changing. i inherited the cats from a friend who moved to germany and i don't want to have to call her and tell her i lost one of them.

Stand strong and firm on that issue!!! And I wish you much luck because cats have a tendency to be persistent in what they want!

Best wishes!

6. I always had indoor cats--they did fine. Cat perches in windows are very helpful.

If you don't have big windowsills, you can get window perches where they can look out and yell at birds, as well as catch some sun.

Here's a link to one that is sold by that Enemy of the DU State, but it will give you an idea of what I mean: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ware-Mfg-Cozy-Kitty-Window-Perch/22071286?findingMethod=rr

not many birds as we're in a garden level, though.

my fat cat is fine staying indoors, but this is the time of year that the dim one always tries to make her jailbreaks. i've been arguing with her about this for three years now.

i could probably put one up on the on the fence on top of the patio walls, that would be close enough for entertainment. damn squirrel will probably eat everything.

10. There are "squirrel proof" metal feeders that work pretty good--I have one.

It's a green metal box, and the platform where the bird perches is weighted so that a bird can alight on it and eat, but a squirrel is too heavy and when he tries to get the food, the thing snaps shut.

There are also some feeds that squirrels don't like (they'll go nuts for the sunflower seeds though).

12. I got sick of the squirrels eatin' the birdies' lunch!

It took me a couple of years of fretting before I went looking for a solution!

I've had my metal feeder for, hell, 13 years or more and it's held up in some really shitty weather. Not cheap, but a good investment!
