There's a litter of Great Dane puppies in the process of being born right now. They have a live cam to watch the birth on the internet here...

So far it looks like two have been born already, but it can take an hour or so between each one. Up until a couple of years ago I thought that once they started being born they just came out one right after the other, but there can be a lot of time between each one. It could be a long night!
It's really a cool thing to see happening. I'm so entralled!

First puppy was a boy and the second was a girl, so there's two boys and a girl right now.

Just read, in a comment These pups are raised and trained as Service Dogs for mobility impaired individuals, veterans, PTSD, FA and MS mostly. They are donated to the people that need them.

Yup, I understood they were to be service dogs, but I didn't reallize they donated them after their training. That's so cool.

(11,065 posts)I missed seeing Nos. 5 and 6 born since I had to take Yoshi out, and since it's been pouring rain all day and night we were out for awhile playing in puddles and great swaths of mud. He got mucky right up to his armpits, so I had to clean him off, and then dry him off as best I could when we got back inside (after he shook a good 3 gallons of water all over the kitchen), and of course about 20 minutes later once I got into dry clothes he wanted to go back out again. Now he's finally seemed to call it a night and is snoozing in the living room.
I can't tell if more puppies are expected or not. Mama doggie has moved to the blankets on the floor, and her rear end looks like it's been cleaned up and none of her own parts look like they're protruding or swelled up, but then again I'm not all together sure what I'm seeing back there. I've only ever had boy dogs, so I'm not all that familiar with doggie lady parts even when they aren't pregnant or giving birth. She still has her humans with her, so I'm not sure if they expect any more or not.
Mama doggie seemed so patient and relaxed through the ordeal and a very good mommy sniffing and licking her babies. They're all nursing and have been since each one came out and was cleaned up. There's one that's mostly white with a grey spot on it's back near its bum that was either the first or second pup and has been quite the wanderer having to be picked up and put back at the belly several times, crawling on Momma doggie or under her armpits, climbing over the other pups and just generally marauding about. They'll have to keep an eye on that one or it'll start hitch-hiking down the street! They're all so tiny and adorable!
