2nd DRAFT FOR COMMENT: Supplemental Statement for the Pets Group

Hello all. This is the second draft (and a complete rewrite) of a statement that is intended to be a supplement to the group's Statement of Purpose. We're not trying to institute rules, but we are hoping to set a basic level of mutual respect for our members.

Put in the vernacular of the intertubes, we are only concerned with limiting thread pissing.

With that, here's the text. As before, *please* feel free to post your comments and criticisms. We really want to hear it all.

The DU Pets group is intended as a safe place for people to share the pet lover's experience. The depth of the emotional connection with our pets should be respected here, both our connection to our own pets and to animals in general. We realize there are many possible flashpoint issues around animals. Please discuss them without getting personal. Of particular import this includes derailing threads about personal situations with contentious issues; please give your fellow group members the respect to peacefully post their joys and their sorrows.

To quote skinner- “Remember: DU is supposed to be fun — don’t make it suck.”

This thread will stay pinned for a while so as to be sure we give as many people as possible every opportunity to see it, comment on it, and revisit it if they wish.

on edit: this is a joint effort. This draft was initially written by mopinko. I made a few minor edits, but nothing substantive. It is endorsed by all three hosts.

eta2: Thanks to Coyote Bandit for suggesting that it may be more appropriate for some pet/animal topics to be posted in DU's Vegetarin, Vegan, and Animal Rights Group in the Activism groups. Somehow we'll try to weave that into the final version.
