I've seen them in PetSmart or some other chain dog store. I just did a google search for "dog car steps" and there's all kinds of things... ramps, folding steps, etc. I'm sure you could find something useful that would work for you browsing around. Prices look really good too. I would have thought a lot of these things would cost a lot more than what I'm seeing. Some kind of folding contraption might be the best idea so you can stash it in the car and always have it ready and waiting.

They also make these sling devices that go under the dog at their back end so you can hoist the back end up a heck of a lot easier for both the lifter and the dog. I'm not sure how much help your dog needs though or how far they have to go to get in the car, so I'm not sure if that would be practical for you or not. Having something to help my dog do the three steps back into the house from the back yard when he was in the later stage of his bone cancer worked great for both him and me. You can take a look at some of them and see what you think if that might help...

Can you move a front seat forward easily? We have an old Volvo station wagon, so it's fairly low compared to an SUV. I move the driver seat forward, making more floor space for the seat behind it. Then our 13 year old border collie-heeler, 52 lbs. can lurch her front feet up on to the floor, but I give her back foot an assist, or lift her whole back end to the ledge of the back door. She can still get herself up onto the back seat from the floor.

she had very bad arthritis, and she could no longer jump into the car or go up the stairs to the front and back doors. I bought a ramp online from a pet supply website. She refused to use it. I would have to boost her up into the car and enlist help from a neighbor to get her up the stairs to the house. I had to send her to doggy heaven when she was 13 years old.

There are many at Amazon, I just looked. We chose one from Hammacher-Schlemmer, which they aren't selling right now, but the black rubber walking surface was excellent, afforded him great footing going up or down.

We also used a harness, a sling device along with the ramp when his legs and overall strength declined. This is from a website I just found in a search for any image in google for "dog lifting sling" hoping something like the one which helped so much would turn up. This sling looks very similar, and they work absolutely beautifully, so very helpful:

There are many others available at other places, and they allow you to make things far, far easier for your dog friend when he/she needs to go outside, or go up a couple of steps. It made our irreplaceable friend far, far less pained trying to go through his daily routine in his later years.
