took (formerly) fat cat for her follow up labs

she's down to 6.5 pounds and that really upsets me. i expect they'll get the results early next week and we'll go from there. we're going to move her to a soft food diet to see if that puts some weight back on her. i just want my old lady to be ok.

I hope that it isn't something really wrong. Do keep us informed when you get the results.

Does the vet have any idea what is causing this? Or are they just waiting for results?

but after the first round they said it could be kidneys or, gods forbid, cancer. we'll see what this round turns up. she stopped liking the kidney food a month or so ago and i hope moving t o soft food helps.

she's an old lady, so some weight loss was expected, but not like this.

It is hard to watch them get old. I don't know what kidney food you are feeding, but I went through them all with one of my cats and the only one that was acceptable to her was Royal Canin. Someone here suggested it because it was the only one their cat would eat.

I feel for you. I have been through kidney failure, cancer, and hyperthyroid with various cats and know that this is not an easy time for you. If it is kidney disease, get some relief in knowing that it is not a painful disease for the cat (or for people as my doctor told me).

dad's brood are quite advanced in age. babies just turned 16 and mama is 17. outside not being to jump like they used to, you wouldn't know they were that old. part of me is angry my girl hasn't fared as well.

It seems she can no longer get to and from the litterbox easily, so I bought some puppy training pads and gave the first one a squirt of Feliway so she knows it's hers. Success! Now to try a litterbox closer to the food dishes and see if she can still get in and out OK.

Now all I have to do is find the rest of her "spots" and this house will no longer smell like a badly maintained kennel.

She's only skin and bones, poor baby, but she still enjoys her Fancy Feast and her hydration is decent with her 2 blood pressure pills and she adores scritches.

I don't know what your situation is and how old your furry friend is, but I decided a long time ago to keep her going only as long as she enjoyed life. So this is Kitty Hospice, not Kitty Hospital.

Geriatric cats in renal failure are no fun. I just hope she tells me when it gets too hard and I don't have another kitty die in my lap because the appointment is too late.

still plays, fusses with the other cat and loves being nuzzled. and food, that is her favorite thing. there's just nothing to her right now.

i have the same philosophy as you, i will keep her going as long as she has a good quality of life.
