Related: About this forumGizmo update: Emergency vet gave him antibiotics and pain medication. We're getting him some
special food for his urinary condition. And if he is still not acting or feeling right in a few days, he is to get x-rays and a urinalysis at his regular vet.
Thanks everyone, for virtually holding my hand last night! You guys are the best!

(115,836 posts)My cat who's had the same problem never used to mind vet visits (though he wasn't fond of the car ride), but ever since he had to be treated for it, he just hates going there, probably with good reason since they had to do some poking and prodding of sensitive parts. Now, even if he's just there for a checkup, he crouches on the examining table with his ears back, emitting a constant low growl.
Hope Gizmo is now back home, sleeping somewhere comfortable and feeling better.

He seems perkier, but is still peeing on the towel in the bathroom. I suppose one pill of antibiotics won't fix him right up. We'll see how he is after a few more.

(18,219 posts)Is he peeing red still? Did the vet have any idea of what it might be? Just an infection?
GreenPartyVoter
(72,381 posts)another white towel in the kids' shower for him to use until the box is less scary to him. At least I can get a good look at the samples he is leaving.

(18,219 posts)The towels will be able to be cleaned. And if you don't think you could use them again, get some puppy pads. Rinse the towels, then use hydrogen peroxide on them. It might take a lot, but it should clean them all up.
I hope that your kitty will start to use the litter box again. I have heard that once they associate the pain of urination with the litter box, it can be difficult to get them to use the box again. If it doesn't get used again, you might want to try getting a different box.

Glad to hear that things seem to be going well with Gizmo.

(11,573 posts)I had a kit who plugged repeatedly. The vet suggested using distilled water instead of tap in his bowl. I did, and he never had another episode. Your Gizmo seems to have an infection going, too, but reducing the precipitates in his urine will cut down pain and inflammation.
