(31,405 posts)14 years ago. The kitties were in/outdoor 5 year old kitties--and I wanted them to have
a chance to go outside and get used to outside before we just let them outside on their own.
We did that every day for a couple of weeks.
Both kitties apparently got the idea of their environment because they both lived to ripe old
ages of 14 and 17 and never ran away.

(18,504 posts)Not so much for taking her out for a stroll, but for making sure she didn't dash out and get lost when we had to get in and out of the car. It worked fine. She didn't like it, but got used to it the first day.

He does not LIKE that he has to wear it, but he knows that if he wants to go outside at all for "play dates" with his little friends the grasshoppers, crickets, lizards, butterflies, etc., he has to allow me to put it on him.
Basically, we put it on him, and then just follow him around the yard while he has fun.
It works fine. But I do think it helped that we first did it when he was about 6 months old.
helpfully,

(3,864 posts)where I lived, she could go out the window.
Since I've moved, I'll only take her out in her harness.
She's old - 15 - and she mostly sleeps, eats and poops,
but I think going outside will perk her up.
(or else it'll freak her out!- but worth a try.)
I have something very similar for my 20 pound Tonkinese.
He loves it. He rushes to the front door every morning, eagerly waiting for me to put it on. It's a ten foot leash, so he can explore the yard a bit and play with his friends.
I don't dare let him out without it. Tonks have had all their "flight or fight" response bred out of them, and he's way too friendly for his own good.
