I may have another cat.

I was not looking for another cat. My boy, Sammy, is quite happy being an only cat in the house. But some times, circumstances come along that you just cannot turn your back on.

This cat is a Persian, long hair, squished up face. She showed up a week ago at the neighborhood cat lady's house where all cats end up living when they are dumped or lost. It was apparent that this cat was not meant to be an outdoor cat. I took some pictures and posted it on FB. Within a couple of hours, I got a call from the daughter of a woman down the street who lost this cat. It seems that it got out of the house at Thanksgiving and has been on the street since then.

So why do I think that I might have another cat? It sounds like an ideal situation, right? Lost cat found. Well, she didn't come to try to get the cat right away. When she did come, it was getting dark and the cat could not be caught so we decided to try the next day. But while we were trying, she said that the cat has bladder problems and she was thinking of having it put down because it has not been able to control it's bladder when it is sleeping. Then she did not come again the next day, and did not call. Today was the second day that she did not come. This cat certainly should not have been outdoors at all, and I know that I would be desperate to get it out of the cold and rain as soon as possible.

The neighbor and I went and sat out on a covered deck where the cat was hanging out, and waited to see if she would come to us, and she did. The owner told us that she was too skittish to come to anyone, including her, but she did come to us. We were petting her, and I finally decided to pick her up. She gave me no problems, and we found out that she was also declawed. I couldn't leave her outside any longer and brought her home, much to the dismay of my resident cat. She has been very charming, letting me brush her a little (there is a lot of brushing and cutting necessary, but that will have to go slowly), rolling around and letting me pet her belly, and playing furiously with a catnip toy.

So now, I am going to wait to see if this woman calls (she has not been the one to call yet). If she does, I am trying to decide whether I will tell her that I have the cat and she can get it or I will keep it if she doesn't want it, or whether I will lie to her and say that it hasn't been seen lately. Since she has yet to call at all, I have time to decide how to handle this.

I did get the last one from a shelter but my other guys are found kitties. We took in a long hair guy one time (kept him 10 years) his fur was so matted we just knocked him out and shaved it off. Boy! Big difference! Before he would just sit there, now he was running around and playing with the other cats! Good luck!

and my current cat is the only one I got from a rescue group as well. Speaking of my current cat, he certainly is not happy after 3 years as the only cat. I am slowly working on the mats, which are really bad around the head, neck, and ears. It will be a while since some are so close to the skin. She will not look good for a while with chunks of fur cut out, but it will feel better---and that is all that matters. I am hoping that I don't have to shave her down, since it is winter.

Maybe an 1/8 inch left. It was also the middle of winter in Idaho, the little beast was out playing in the snow the next day. Of course we have a cat door and they come and go as they please (this is probably why we have found cats) Poor guy passed on about two years ago but we gave him a home for ten years. Good luck with the new kitty.

She probably won't ever call back. So you have yourself a kitty. Definitely keep her indoors, being de-clawed. If she does call (very small chance) just say you have become attached and would like to keep her. All full of mats, too? Some people should not have pets.

when I did know whose cat it was, so I called her and told her that I had the cat in my house. I came right out and asked her if she did want the cat back, and if not, I would keep it. She hemmed and hawed, and said it sounds horrible, but she would be happier not having the cat back. Yes, it did sound horrible, but I was expecting that.

So I do indeed have another cat now. This is not going to be easy, since the one I have already is a "dog eater", which means that any food put out is eaten immediately---no nibbling or snacking. The new cat will have to learn to eat this way as well, since I will not be able to leave food out for her. This was the biggest reason that I did not want a second cat. But it is not insurmountable.

As to all the mats, I believe that it is due to being on the streets for 3 weeks, and not because of the condition prior to the cat escaping. I am working on them and just hope that I don't have to have her shaved.

a weak bladder could indicate some medical condition which might be alleviated if treated. It's very kind of you to give Kitty a new chance.

and will take her in soon. The weak bladder is, possibly, due to a gun shot from a pellet gun when she was little that damaged her hip and female parts---so I assume that it could have damaged the bladder as well. I will have the vet see if there is anything that can be done about it. But one day in, I don't see any place where she has had an accident yet.

De-clawing is often related to litter box problems. If she is having any pain from a bad de-claw, she might be avoiding using the box. The vet can try to see if there are any ongoing troubles in the paws, like bone fragments left behind, claws re-growing under the skin, or other nightmare situations.

although she uses the litter box regularly. From what I have been told by the woman who had her, she was shot with a pellet gun when she was young. It hit in the hip area and ruined her female parts so that she would never be able to get pregnant. That sounds to me like it could also have done some damage to the bladder or how it is situated. I was told that the only time she pees is when she is sound asleep. But I will definitely discuss all of this with the vet.

There is no way any person could leave this kitty outside. I am not sure it is a "yay for" me, since I was not looking for another cat, but you gotta do what you gotta do. She will worm her way into my heart. I already feel so bad for her condition and being rejected by her former home (see above for details on that).
