Three weeks ago, Amber Hemphill returned home from work to find one of her dogs missing from the yard.
Frantic, she asked her neighbors if theyd seen Heide, her 6-month-old boxer. Her search took her to the Nebraska Humane Society.
There was Heide. She wasnt wearing a collar, but Hemphill proved the dog was hers by presenting paperwork for a blank microchip embedded under Heides skin.
Traditionally, pet lovers have designated May as Chip Your Pet Month to promote the practice of tagging dogs, cats and other pets with small microchips encoded with their owners information.
