Lacey's kittens: seven weeks old!

Hi everybody! Our foster mom had to go out of town for a few days, but she's back and ready to help us do this post. We are seven weeks old now! Yay! We have so much energy and can do so many things, that she can hardly get us to hold still long enough to get a picture in focus. We are eating cat food very well now--the wet stuff anyway--and have taken to sharing one dish with Mama. We can eat as fast as she does now! We aren't nursing very much--we aren't babies any more. We are allowed to run around the whole upstairs of the house because we are perfectly housebroken, so we play under and on top of the big beds and explore everywhere. We can't go downstairs though, because then Mama would fight with our foster mom's regular cats. Oh well. We have a great room of our own full of toys and comfy beds. Here are a few pictures to show how our week went:

This is me, Kona.

This is me, Maui.

This is us having lunch with Mama.

Playing with a ball.

This is the carrier that we go in to visit the vet at the shelter. We got our distemper boosters this week and Kona got an antibiotic prescription for her little rattle in her chest, left over from the virus we all had back when we were little. The shelter has new people and funny smells, but we were not so scared on this second trip. Here I, Kona am tasting the bars.

Cat grass!

I'm ready for ya!

Getting tired; time for a little bath.

We get to use this cozy heated cat bed when we want to sleep just by ourselves.

Plus that kitten is already bilingual. I expected the first-kitten story to be written in LOLCatese.

We have two of them and bought them 3 and 4 years ago. They are holding up very well, and you can take out the heating part and machine wash it. Our 12 year old adores hers.

I took a lot of pictures to get that many good ones!

I have some old cats who really need them, and I've never seen these. I hope they don't have a quick shut-off period. I bought heating pads and blankets, but they all shut off too soon for cats who need it overnight.

They are heated to a cat's body temperature, 104 degrees, and use as much as a 4-watt night light, so we leave them plugged in all the time, unless we are in the heat of summer.

It looks like they don't offer the red color anymore. Our other one is brown and it's just as nice.

I have taken pictures of cats for my local shelter about once a week for almost three years now, so I've had a lot of practice.

I was particularly taken with the little black one since he reminds me of my own kitten. I found him in a grocery store parking lot last August at right about the same age - the vet said he was around seven weeks - and he is growing into a beautiful cat. These little ones were so fortunate to have found you...

Felix - then and now:

He looks like my Zelda, who is ten years old and a sweet cat. A bit of a 'fraidy cat though--heads for the basement when people come over.

What a lovely cat! Even those eyes look familiar to me, LOL. Felix is still afraid of some things - can get bitey if he doesn't like something, but he's gotten a lot better and continues to learn. He still is a kitten, after all, had a rough start, so I try to be patient with him.

I had no idea what the tiny kitten I found in the grocery store parking lot actually looked like. It was at night, dark, and I could only spot him by his eyes. But the fact that he turned out to be (almost - has a white spot on his chest and one partially white foot) entirely black with long hair was a pleasant surprise. I adopted my uncle's two cats when he died and one of them was the most remarkable feline personality I'll ever know - and she was also black with long hair. Her name was Rhiannon.

Felix loves the cat tree:
