He had been abandoned and hung around by a house I used to live in. I fed him every day and he would wolf it down. He has golden eyes, so I called him Butter. He also head butts me to say hello.
When I moved into my own place,my boss was trying to talk me into adopting a kitten he had found. When I went back to pick up my last load at the old house, Butter had a horrible wound on his forearm. I could even see tendons. That made my decision for me. I could not leave him there. I took him with me.
I was lucky that the Humane Society took walk-ins on the weekend. They checked him out and told me all the shots he needed AND that he needed surgery on his arm. He needed dead and infected tissue removed and the remaining skin to be stretched and stitched up. I had just gotten a job after a long period of unemployment. All I could think was dollar signs. I asked how much it would be. They told me EVERYTHING - FLV test (negative!), shots, arm surgery, neutering and meds would be $400. I have no doubt a regular vet would have been over $1000, which I just didn't have. But $400 I could handle.
He sailed through surgery without complications. He even ripped off the the bandage on his arm after a couple of days hobbling. He uses his litter boxes like a champ! He is very happy being the only cat and not having to fight for his food.
They said he is between 2 and 3 years old. Here's my little buddy, Butter (aka Boo).
