300 animals removed from Lawrence County, Alabama shelter

ASPCA blog post here

From the article:

Many of the animals were emaciated and appeared to be suffering from medical issues such as parvo, distemper and untreated wounds. Some of the animals were being housed in small wire crates and others in crowded enclosures where animals fought for resources and space.

How did it get to this level before complaints were brought? Turns out the woman running the "shelter" was 82 years old; probably in dementia. Clearly too old to be running a shelter. How did she get such a contract?

there will be an adoption even on July 25-26 for the rescued dogs.

They are adopting the dogs out for free. That concerns me: how much background check are they doing on the adopters? What's the odds that someone or other will be adopting "bait?"

I remember years ago when a man was going from farm to farm in the CT/MA area with his little girl, begging people to give her a pony. A few people fell for the ruse, and their ponies were shipped straight to slaughter.
