'Dogs Will Eat Anything.' Veterinarian Removes 21 Pacifiers From Dog's Belly

7:19 PM EST

(EDMOND, Okla.) — An Oklahoma mother and father couldn’t figure out what was happening to their child’s pacifiers until the baby’s grandmother saw the family dog swipe one off a counter.

One nauseous pooch and a trip to their veterinarian’s office confirmed the couple’s hunch: Dovey had 21 pacifiers lodged in her stomach.

The couple told the veterinarian Dovey had slowed her eating and was vomiting for a few days, but other than that, they thought she seemed fine.

KFOR-TV reports that at first, the veterinarian thought there were only seven to nine pacifiers in Dovey’s stomach, but the surgery proved otherwise.

X-Rays Show Oklahoma Dog Swallowed 21 Baby Pacifiers
BY ALEX PERRY ON 12/08/17 AT 2:49 PM

As any dog owner knows, man’s best friend has a dangerous combination of a limitless appetite and a bottomless stomach. We love canines despite the fact that they will eat seemingly anything at any time, especially things that are definitely not food. Anything small enough to fit in your dog’s mouth is not safe in your home and should be hidden well.

At some point in the coming year, I should probably get my dog's stomach x-rayed. She's a rescue we've had for just a few months, and it's become obvious that she will try to chew just about anything she can get. She's especially fond of the wooden handle of tools and brushes, but rocks or blankets will do also.

Poor old gal was taken from a hoarder, and at least one of the dogs from that same home died before they were all removed. So even if she hasn't eaten anything -- just chewed it up -- while she's been with us, there's no telling what she's swallowed in the past to cope with gnawing hunger.

She used to eat but was always picky. She wouldn't eat any wet food and dry food is almost as bad. People say, "When she is hungry she will". NOPE! She will lose weight and at 7 lbs that does make a big difference. She has to be tricked into eating anything (like another dog wants hers). Or else I have to play games. The vet said that at her age and considering the fact that she is healthy I should do whatever I have to do to get food in her.
My other dogs ate everything...mushrooms, lettuce, you name it. This one will not eat cheese, chicken, ground beef, etc. I have 5 bags of opened food that she liked for a nanosecond then wouldn't touch it.

It's probably better than what they get from the floor sweepings and busted bags that are donated by the local grocery stores. It might help if you put some fiber into her food. Try Benefiber. We are giving this to an elderly (18 yr.) cat and it has helped to control those very loose poops she had.

...Planet once had a "Best Of" show, where the various vets told some of their favorite stories. The one that stood out to me was about a dog who'd had some lady's panties removed from his stomach. The lingerie turned out not to be the brand or style worn by the lady of the house, but the hubby's 'honey on the side.'

Busted by man's best friend.

She likes foam and plastic. We have to be careful. First she will get close to it, smell it, lick it, and start trying to chew it.

She has a history of being a frat cat, and we figure early in her life she did not get fed regularly. She hovers over the food dishes and constantly paws and mews for earlier feedings.

She is also a sweet cat.

Coming seven days great works understanding that thing out. Seen the same operation for intestinal worms, must be so awkward/agonizing having to some extent that effects on your digestive system.
