Related: About this forumBonkers leaves us today.
I often come to the Pets Group on DU to pay homage to my rescues babies who leave us. We get ones with health issues, neglect, etc. and many times their bodies recover but pay the price for their history down the road. So, first thank you all for being here and allowing me to vent my sorrow.
Today, my daughters cat will leave us. Early afternoon. Bonkers is a 9-year old much loved family member in the household of my daughter and son-in-law. Solid black. Big guy. And you can guess the personality based on the name.
Hes been sick and sliding since last November. Lymphoma that has now spread to vital organs, and hes ready to stop being puny. Hes had the best care possible, but this is something mere humans cant fix. Hes had a good life since they adopted him at 4 months of age. Never been cold. Never been hungry. Always been cherished.
Today, he will leave us. Wrapped in loving arms and surrounded by love and tears. Today we honor the goodness he brought to the world. Tomorrow and beyond, we miss him.
Please join me in raising a glass...
To Bonkers!!!! Who will forever be loved.

(9,426 posts)Animals easily make a place for themselves in our hearts. Bonkers was fortunate to have been adopted by a loving, caring family. So many animals are not so lucky. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. My heart goes out to you, daughter and son in law at this sad time.

(28,127 posts)Your post was so touching, it made me tear. Only an insensitive human wouldn't understand the deep love we have for our furkids and grand-furbabies.
We had a Bonkers in our lives many yrs ago - her name was Doozie, and she was. The girl made it to 22!

(32,729 posts)An ex was a Certified Euthanasia Technician and I watched her put down many animals. Seem like a very peaceful and painless way to go. You could watch the pain leave and then a peaceful last breath.
I hope Bonkers finds that peace.

(51,636 posts)I am going to Europe when I am ready to go. My parents may do that too.
My neighbor's cat was put to sleep last weekend. I hugged my dog even more than I usually do that night. I cherish every moment with my little girl. She is almost 15.

(11,879 posts)I have seen many animals across the rainbow bridge and they really do seem peaceful in their passing. They give us so very much during their short stay in our lives and at the end... a peaceful passing is what we give them.
Would that it were so for our family members.
Swift reward, Bonkers.

(10,237 posts)...and I'm sure that he'll welcome Bonkers.
Please accept my condolences. I know from my very recent experience is that the knowledge that they will no longer be in pain or suffering doesn't lessen our grief in letting them go.
Please accept my condolences.
PEACE!

(6,558 posts)As hard as it is to make that final decision, It is a kindness to the beloved fur baby. Have had to do this many times myself. Their memories remain with us, and when the time is right we go in search of another loving companion who will bring their special gifts into out lives. He will be waiting for you and your family members at the rainbow bridge when you get there.

(6,096 posts)It is so hard to do this for a dog or a cat, and I've done both. It makes your days kind of
the worst thing you can think of ALL DAY.....Please give him an extra pat from me.

I still say hello every time I walk past my own little pet cemetery here in the woods. Sad to say, it grows larger every year, mostly from losing kids to old age.
It never gets any easier. But getting a new kitten does ease the pain, and Bonkers wouldn't mind that.
