Guess what we woke up to this morning? Baby miniature donkey! We just thought mama Wendy was getting way too fat. Guess daddy Roy got the job done before we had him gelded.
Naming her Piper. Her full sister is Scout.

(11,571 posts)Friends of mine used to have miniature horses, and pygmy goats. Cutest little farm you ever saw. The goats, full-grown, were about the size of a small border collie.

(22,157 posts)Piper is a rambunctious baby. She'll boing boing boing around, then come back to eat. She has discovered that petting and scritchies are wonderful, and has started following me around some--much to mama Wendy's dismay.
These pics don't really show how tiny she is. I'm thinking about 40 lbs-- a third the size of one of my dogs. Vet is coming Tue. to give both of them tetanus shots.
Weird thing about all this.....I lost my last Pygmy goat last week. She was pretty ancient. A few days later, and Piper is born. As the old saying goes, in the midst of death, there is life.
Thanks for all the well-wishes!

(22,157 posts)We are now losing Piper's 2 yr. old sister, Scout, to the same thing today. Vet's can't figure out what's going on, even the specialist. Everyone has the proper vaccinations. It is probably a rare form of botulism, that has no vaccination. The really evil thing about botulism is it slowly creeps up their body with paralysis, until it cuts off their respiration.
We are devastated. Trying to decide if we should move the parents to another pen, in case there is something in the soil there.
