Related: About this forumSo Many Kitties!
I live in a small town where there is a large feral cat population. A group of around 10 hangs out in my back yard. I keep them fed, watered and somewhat sheltered.
Over the years I have taken in 4 kittens who all now live in my tiny house with me. I've also managed to find homes for the few other babies who have survived out there. But this year has been extra productive, baby-wise.
There's a little "kitty condo" we built in the backyard, Princess lives with her three new kittens and an adopted daughter from another feral. Next door in an abandoned shed is another mom with two kittens.
So, between the two moms, there are now six healthy, happy kittens. Plus, there are probably at least five or six other mom cats in the neighborhood now.
We had to do something. We looked and looked and finally found one organization here that will help with getting them fixed and adopted. But, although is is low cost, it isn't free . Considering how many are in need, this is going to be an involved, long-term, and expensive project.
These are all beautiful little creatures who just need a bit of love in their lives, and a bit less stress. So my partner set up a go fund me here. https://www.gofundme.com/reduce-the-ferals
Anything you could do to help out would be greatly appreciated.
We now have 5 scheduled for surgery next week. Then they will all recuperate in my house while we search for homes and work on getting some more into the vet's. I have no doubt it's going to be a pretty wild few weeks here and I hope to get some really fun photos to share.
Thank you all for caring and sharing.

(205,498 posts)Hope I helped a little. I've spent time feeding cats myself and I found my beautiful Felix as a kitten in a supermarket parking lot - he just turned 4 this week!

(205,498 posts)That little scaredy kitten has grown up into a beautiful cat - and the vet said he was just about 7 weeks, which means this week is his 4th birthday! Best of luck with the kitties, you're doing a wonderful thing!

(8,310 posts)With whom I live. I don't have a pay pal account and he has experience with GFMs. I don't know what an RC is. That is our house and all those babies on are the floor behind me right now.

(23,691 posts)I didn't want to put their name in the note. I just donated and thanks for taking care of these sweet babies.
I'm a little apprehensive of using the gofundme site when it isn't one started by a DU member. Not too long ago many of us were taken by a phony situation.

(8,310 posts)Sorry to hear about the phony situation. I'm usually pretty on top of goings on here but I missed that. I do remember a bad one from several years ago....
Anyway, we're for real. The babies go for surgery tomorrow. I will keep you all updated on their progress.
I thought RC stood for Recruiting Committee or something. Doh...

(22,264 posts)Their mom set up housekeeping on our patio (it took a long time before she would even come on the patio if I was outside, but I finally got her to do that, but she would NOT eat until I turned my back to return to the house) So she had a litter, and when they became ambulatory she brought them to our patio where they grew up wild as march hares. I managed to catch one of them one very cold morning, brought him in the house, fixed him up in the bathroom with a cushion, water, food, litter. He spent a little time behind the toilet, then decided to come out to the edge of the tub.
Later that night, I went in and sat down on the cushion, with a book and waited to see what he would do. He crept up to me and got next to me; I reached down and touched him and he crawled up into my lap! I thought I was going to have to dynamite him off! I have never tamed a cat that fast! He is a much loved member of our household.
So MomCat had a second litter about 8 months later. Brought them back. I had found a TNR group so a volunteer came over and trapped them all, took them for the free spay/neuter and brought them home in kitty condos after 3 days. Two of the females and one of the males were quite friendly and were adopted easily. The other two (the Ninja Twins) were quite wild and took longer. We lost the male, but the female finally just waltzed in one day and stayed. She loves being a house kitty.
MomCat never came in, we fed her for about another 18 months and she started getting very thin, as did two other now neutered ferals we fed often. We suspect a cat poisoner.

(8,310 posts)Except for that last part, of course.
We have to do our own trapping here. But that's going surprisingly well, so far. I think we have a good reputation here, amongst the feral population, as a great place to go if you need a meal, a drink, or a nice place to nap.
