Related: About this forumI AM SO ANGRY!!!!!
I was driving home today in the rain and spotted a pickup with a DOG in the back-- while his owner (if you can call him that), all warm and snug in the cab, blithely chatting away on his phone. He then turned to go onto the freeway. Meantime, the dog didn't move. Just stood there with a sad, sad look on her face. I could tell she was an older dog. I just wanted to follow that bastard and take "his" dog away from him. That's animal cruelty, in my book. Plus, talking on the phone while driving? What a creep
I wanted to get his license but he was already turning by then. I just wish I could have done something.
Thanks for letting me vent.

(115,836 posts)Years ago I stole a cat from some irresponsible dingbat neighbors, and I have never been even slightly sorry. They didn't bother to neuter him so he howled and sprayed, and so they just threw him outside no matter how cold it was. One day I saw the poor thing outside freezing in subzero weather, so we took him in and got him neutered and treated for ear mites and worms. He lived to be 21.

(22,899 posts)I wish I could have taken that poor dog home-- even though I'm a cat person. I would have found him/her a home, no matter what.
Damn
Thanks for your post

(32,057 posts)I cant stand seeing children or animals abused or neglected. Sometimes theres just nothing you can do. Its infuriating that these kind of jerks even own animals, and Ill bet that dog is loyal and loving. Life is so unfair sometimes!

(22,899 posts)I don't think I'll ever make peace with that devastating thought for as long as I live. But it's offset by all the kind people out there who constantly help those who are helpless.
Thanks for responding, Ohiogal

(4,033 posts)we observed a neighborhood kid two doors down kicking her pit bull puppy. Then dad rolls up yells at the little girl and grabs the puppy by the scruff of his neck and tosses him in the back of the pick up. The Mrs. and I were appalled and started to plan how to liberate the pup. Meanwhile my son went down to the neighbor, gave him a piece of his mind and bought the puppy from them on the spot.
He was the sweetest, friendliest little (for a pit bull) puppy. We knew we couldn't keep him as he was twice the size of our other dogs and just too rambunctious for household. Additionally, our city has really tough laws about having pit bulls for pets. It took us 4 days to find a rescue that had room and they were 100 miles away, but we took him. They fell in love with him immediately and had him placed in a forever home within a couple of days of their vet giving him a clean bill of health. Last I heard, dog and new owners were all happy as could be.
I was amazed that my son did what he did, but I was also so proud of him.
