NY may be the first state to outlaw declawing...

Animal rights groups have been fighting for this for years, and the legislature finally passed it last week. It's sitting on the governor's desk at the moment, and he's "thinking about it".

(Most vets around here won't declaw cats, remove healthy dogs' larynx, or other procedures unless medically necessary. There are, however, some veterinary organizations that promote such procedures- and donate heavily.)

>>Veterinarians would still be able to perform the procedure for medical reasons, such as infection or injury. However, those who violate the ban could face $1,000 fines.

********

Such a paltry fine for doing something to a cat that will disable and cause horrific pain for the rest of its life. Shame on anyone that does this to a cat!
