over the years, I asked myself how would that name sound if I was frantically calling out for a lost pet? Was it long enough to be heard, did it sound like other words, was it distinctive enough not to be confused with something else? Does it sound more like a people name than a critter name?

Could I yell it loud and still understand the word, would other people help me search and call out that name, or was it too weird or objectionable?

Something else to consider when you think of all the crazy names people come up with to tarnish their poor pet for ever, you know what I'm saying.

I thought about this after I named a cat, Rasputin, who had extra long, raggedy black fur, after his resemblance to the mad monk.
