This cat is unnerving!

The last cat left in our house is my Liddle Buddy's younger brother. He is 15, from the litter following Liddle Buddy's litter. That familial heritage aside, Liddle Buddy was the prototypical Solitary Cat, while her brother here, The Mayor, is as gregarious as she was not.

She stayed, by choice, in our offices, downstairs. Her favorite spot was a windowsill that gave her a nice place to lay and a panoramic view of the yard and all the wildlife that passes by. She'd stay there, on the floor at the siding door, or in my office, at my feet.

The only thing they had in common, she and The Mayor, is they were talkers.

When the Mayor came to live here, we closed the downstairs door to keep the peace. Liddle Buddy would just not tolerate another cat.

Now that my Liddle Buddy is gone (and I sure do miss her), The Mayor has been exploring her turf. He started by coming into my office and sitting under my desk. Just like her, he bats at my toes if I poke at him (I rarely wear shoes).

Today was the clincher. He was on her windowsill. While he is thinner and a little bit bigger, he is the same color - your basic, nothing special, gray tabby cat.

I thought it was her sitting there.

Sparkly saw him and thought the very same thing for second.

Its unnerving.

He's a great cat.

I miss my Liddle Buddy a lot.

how one cat can have different personalities, depending on the situation. Now that there are no other cats in the house, he has changed.

I know how hard it is to lose a furbaby. Sorry you lost Liddle Buddy, but now is the time to warm up to The Mayor. Sounds like a great situation to me.

due to cancer, years ago, I looked out my kitchen window one morning and saw a black cat sitting on Ace's grave! I never saw that cat again.

I think many times they somehow take on the personalities of the others that have passed. I think they miss them, too.

My father passed away in 2011 at a very advanced age. I "inherited" his little dog, who is about 14 now. It is AMAZING to me on so many occasions that this dog is exactly like my dad. The personalities simply imprint somehow.

We had just cleaned it a few weeks before she died. (Obviously it gets tended and emptied regularly.) we had taken it outside, took it all apart, and hosed it, soaped it, and disinfected it.

When she died, for a few days I was unable to touch or go near anything of hers, but he was fine with it. He sniffed and then avoided her kittybeds, but was perfectly okay with using her litter box, even with a few days of her stuff in it! Now he's abandoned his old litter box and is using this one.

He's also spending hours on her windowsill. I put her bed back up there and he immediately left. I took it away again, and he returned.

Go figure.
