Does that wiggly-giggly ball come in small sizes? My cats might like something like that. ... although as years go by, their favorite exercise seems to be aerobic napping.

It's actually the small sized ball that is still marketed for pets (the large sized one is now only marketed for kids but it's the same damn ball only bigger). I've seen the small ones advertised lots of places on the intertubes including ebay. Since the original company that made them (Multipet) no longer does and must have sold the design with the name and logo to another company (whose name escapes me at the moment) is an international company the size of the ball isn't measured in inches but likely with the metric system, so when looking for one, the size is usually given in inches, but most websites never actually measured the thing accurately and depending on what internet site is used the size (if given at all) may be described as 4 inches, 4.5 inches or even 5 inches, which is damn confusing, but it's all the same small ball. I noticed that many sites didn't bother to give a size at all and just called it "small".

The smaller ball also makes a somewhat higher pitched giggle sound than the large sized ball, but I think a cat might like that even better than the lower toned sound of the big ball. I would think to a cat it would be more close to mimicking the sound of small prey cats normally go for like mice and birds and stuff. My big beastie doggie seems like noisy toys that make lower toned sounds like his big wiggly giggly balls and farting hedgehogs (I confess I think I have even more fun with the farting hedgehogs than he does! LOL!).

Just do a google search for "wiggly giggly ball" or "small wiggly giggly ball", and a lot of sites that have it will come up. I haven't seen them sold in stores for a few years now, and the one place I did find them back then was a specialty pet shop that only had the small sized ball... and when I checked again to see if they had the large sized one again a few months later they didn't even sell the small one anymore. I think this is because when Multipet sold the item to the new company that sells them now the new company decided to only market them on the internet and not in stores... a marketing decision just as dumb as deciding to only market the large sized ball to kids and not pets.

The ball is a durable hard plastic/rubber that's hollow on the inside to hold the tubes that make the sound. I think that's why the small ball makes a higher pitched sound than the large ball... smaller ball means smaller and narrower tubes I would guess. The thing about it that seems to make it such a fascinating toy (at least it has been the absolute favorite with all three of my doggies, not to mention the only one that's lasted to the third dog where everything else they destroyed and pretty quickly) is that the giggle sound is very inconsistant... sometimes it makes the noise when rolled or thrown or flung around and sometimes it doesn't... keeps my dogs endlessly interested because they cant figure out why it makes the noise sometimes but not other times... a regular squeaky toy is easy for them to figure out ("if I do X the toy squeaks - ok, that's easy - bored now". LOL!).

I'd check a lot of places for it and compare prices. There really is a big gap in price depending on where you buy it, but generally it's quite a bit less than $10 though I have seen it sold for that much some places but I could swear I saw it advertised at a couple places on sale for like around $4. The large sized ball also seemed to be sold at a wide range of prices... anywhere from around $13 to $25! That's a big difference, so I'd look around at a lot of different sites for a good price.

Aerobic napping! LOL! Cats have a unique way of napping in such a ultra-relaxed manner they appear to be entirely boneless... their Empty Bag of Fur imitation.

For a long time, my cats liked tightly-wadded paper balls. I would throw them and they would chase and retrieve. Lately, they chase but they don't retrieve. I think they would be fascinated by something that seemed to move on its own, like a wiggly ball. These are indoor cats, so their options are limited.

Incidently, the ball doesn't move on its own, but it does roll rather "drunkenly" if you can imagine what that would look like. When I first got one a friend of mine used to call it the "blotto ball"... took me awhile to understand that "blotto" means "drunk".

I just wish I had more scrap material to use to try making something else. Well, I do have stuff like floral prints or plaid, but I can't think of what kind of creature has either floral or plaid fur or skin. I do have a pair of really goofy leopard print fuzzy pants I might sacrifice to make a fat round leopard cover since I've had them for years and never worn them. I don't know what in the world I was thinking when I bought them... they must have been 70% off or something, but even that's not a good enough excuse for buying them. At least I never actually wore them anywhere.

I have a feeling that my closet and drawers could be fertile ground for your searches too.

Nope, never thought about that. I doubt it would be practical anyway since i have to make them by hand since the sewing machine crapped out years ago. Like my bead work I just do it to keep my hands busy... I always feel discombobulated without some kind of project to keep my hands busy. The next project really should be refinishing the dining room table since I promised my mom years ago that I would, but after doing all the chairs I can't stand the thought of looking at another piece of sandpaper just yet.

Otherwise, they would cost too much. They destroy everything! their favorite game is to find the squeaker, do emergency surgery to liberate it, then run around throwing the squeaker in the air.

My idea of making a toy is stuffing a footy sock with a tennis ball and tying a knot so it doesn't fall out! We are not crafty
