If you were ever considering one, this is it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AZQXGY/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
I have two of them. The cats love them. They use as much electricity as a 4 watt night light, so you can just leave them plugged in, and the kitty will always have a warm spot, even if your lap isn't available. They go to 104 degrees, cat body temperature, but they won't feel especially warm to your hand--the cat needs to sit there a while for the warmth to build up. Our short haired cat has hers sitting next to a window, and she stays cozy as she watches the birds and squirrels outside.
We originally got one for our one geriatric kitty, and then had to buy a second one for the younger cat. The heating element zips out so that you can wash them in your washing machine.

I think it is a great idea, but does the cat spend all the time there and no time in your face anymore?

(17,276 posts)Still walks in front of the computer screen, still competes with the other cat for time on my lap. But if I am gone and the heat is down, she's still got a cozy spot, and that's good to know. And if we go away for a day or two, she's got her spot. In winter it is a real help. She likes her bed, but she's happy that it is located in the main area where we spend time.
In the evening, she will stay on her bed but be watching me out of the corner of one eye. When I start making motions to turn out lights and go to bed, she gets up and follows me to the bedroom, even pushing open the door with one paw. It's a really cute routine. She sits in the same spot every night while I brush my teeth, then crawls in under the covers next to me and purrs. this is "winter weather mode". In summer she'll like as not stay in her bed downstairs (unplugged in warm weather). She is the kitty in my sig pic.
So I think your kitty will still want you. Cat beds don't scratch ears, talk kitty talk to them or make a cat feel not alone.

(18,219 posts)I wish that my kitty would come under the blankets, but that just isn't going to happen. But I keep a soft blanket on top of the bed and he loves to sleep on it around my legs.
Your cat is a beauty. I will have to consider trying one of these beds. Anything for the cat's comfort! I am a good servant.

(20,876 posts)I bought one towards the end of my Old Kitty's life. She was so very sick and she had dug in deep to the heated cat bed I'd gotten for her.
After she died, Ol' Flame took a liking to it as well and it wasn't long after that that he too went and also lived his last days in this world on that same heated cat bed.
I'll get one for my cat to use. Right now he sleeps on top of our DVR. It always stats warm but then when it's bedtime he sleeps down by my feet.
