I will never understand those who let their cats outside in all weathers. And when the weather is bad, my dog always hated going out so I've resorted to "puppy pads."

We can keep our dog and all our cats inside, but we're working at putting a small heater out in the garage where we have a pet pigeon.

And I'm really worried about the feral cats in the neighborhood. There are some that I've been feeding for years, but they still won't let me near them, so there's nothing I can do to help them get through this.

You can leave the door of a garage or storage shed cracked open just enough for them to slip inside.

Right next to the garage bay with the feral pigeon rescue, we've got a garage bay for feral cats (and the occasional possum). There's a small hole cut in the door, and inside we've got mounds of hay, a few insulated cat shelters and a dry cat food feeder (hence, the possums).

They are hoping the amount of snow here will be less that previously stated but damn, wind chills -20 to -40 expected for a period of one or more days with temps below 0 for several continuous days. My poor horses, it is already miserable with the dampness and little bits of drizzle. The oldest has a coat on but the other two are still robust and so far have haired up well and not been bothered by the coldness creeping in.

My dogs are always in unless they want to be out and we think it is OK for them. My cats at the house are indoors all the time. I do have a barn cat that keeps the area around the barn clean, he comes and goes as much as I have tried to keep him in the barn. He knows all the warm places but if he gets uncomfortable he comes to the house and we have a warm quarter for him in the garage.

No living creature should have to put up with this if there is someone to take care of them but just refuses. Makes me sick and crazy.

It starts here Wednesday night and gets really nasty starting Thursday with the wind chill warnings going into Saturday possibly. I am in Kansas and it starts North of me but I am not certain exactly where. Been working too hard to get the farm tied up for it and getting enough bedding for the horses to stay warm. The snow amounts have dropped for here although they are just not certain so we will see.

We have a winter storm watch up for Christmas weekend for all of western NY, starting on Friday night. Predictions are that the temp will drop quickly on Friday, causing freezing rain followed by heavy snowfalls and high winds with 60 mph gusts. The forecast includes blizzard conditions in some parts of this region.

this thing is sweeping in on us from the North and I think it is headed North and East of us after it is done here.

I am terrified of this storm. I lost both my very dear, old goats this summer due to the extreme heat.

Yup, don't forget those pups, kitties, rabbits, and any others not accustomed to outdoor life (and stall your horses with extra hay & grain)
