bought a water fountain for the cats...

Set it up a few hours ago. So far, nobody's drinking. The two cats just look at it, bored. The idea is to get them to drink more water.

Do you think they will eventually drink water from it, or should I pack it up and send it back?

Try letting them drink from it while it is off for the first few days. That way they can at least.. Walk away Jan 2013 #11

It is located near where they eat, and as I fed them tonight, the closest one kept looking up at it suspiciously. They haven't been particularly attracted to a running faucet. They eat mostly wet food so I don't think they drink a lot of water. The eight year old just had a urinary problem so I wanted to encourage more drinking.

It is this one:

Ceramic, plugs in and has a trickling sound. Kind of nice--maybe nice enough to keep around just for the sound of it.

I've never seen pet fountains but know many cats
who will only drink from a running faucet.

It took a day or two for the two cats to venture to drink from it, but after a little while, they couldn't get enough of it. There was always water all over the place from them playing with it as well as drinking. I had a different kind, mine had a dome that water ran down, but it was the same concept----moving water. I hope it works out, but if you have a kitty with problems, make sure that there is water available besides this until you know they will use it. Mine did end up loving it----and I hated it. But it is all about the cats!

My other strategy is to add an extra T. or so of water to their wet food. I stir it and it makes a gravy and they lap it up.

I did some playing around with the water to get their curiousity going. Little splashes while talking to the cats.

Let us know how it works.

for my dog and cat. It took a little longer for the cat to drink out of it but now neither of them will drink out of it if the water isn't coming out of the fountain part!
Make sure you clean it often because the bowl and other parts do get kinda slimy lol

they'd stick their heads under the flow get their heads wet and water went everywhere. So I let the tub trickle into a big stainless bowl now, the love it and the water doesn't go to waste. Always cold, entertaining...

9. I bought a Drinkwell

One of our cats has FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis) so we needed to get her to drink more water. I would say it took awhile for me to see her drink from the fountain most of the other cats took to it right away.

I still keep bowls of water out for whomever prefers it that way. I can't remember the last time I've seen a cat drink from them though.

I clean out the Drinkwell once a week. And I add filtered water to it throughout the day. Once in awhile I have to clear out some fur from the intake nozzle. I set the Drinkwell on a place mat that has a cloth towel wrapped around it for spills.

The worst part of a Drinkwell is trying to get the electric motor out to clean it. It was designed to be removed by teeny tiny fingers.

I think you should keep it. And like the other Poster said, play with the water to get them interested at first.

I stuck each cat's paw in the water once, but it didn't make any difference. These ladies are 8 and 10 years old so it might take some time.
