My friend has her cats and I have mine

They are all very insistent about their care- like meals fresh, water fresh, and on time! My cat reminds me that her milk treat is due, which is the same time I take one of my pills, so that's a benefit for us both. And she knows exactly which food she gets, and when the can is empty. lol

What do your pets do that is an ingrained habit that keeps you on their schedule?

3. a flying leap

My 18 month old male likes to take a flying leap and land directly on my stomach when I'm asleep. I have both upper and lower back injuries so I can only sleep on my back.

This morning he pounced on me so hard at 3:30 am that it knocked the breath out of me. He is a very big cat. I was not able to get back to sleep so today is proving to be a looooong work day.

big Siamese jumped on my back, gave me a paw massage, circled around a few times and laid down right in the middle of my back. It was perfect. I had no idea he would do that. Then the next time I tried it, nope. It was a one-time thing. Damn. I thought maybe I could train him to do it whenever I wanted.

Was overweight for years, so she hasn't jumped anything for a long time. She's lost some weight, but if she jumped on me, she'd leave a mark.

or tosses things to the floor if she doesn't see signs that I am attending to her food and water on schedule. Which one she does depends on her mood. If I am at my desk, she hops onto it and rubs my face incessantly while blocking the laptop screen. If I don't respond soon enough, in her opinion, she hits my hand, or puts her paw on it to make it stop typing.

If I am watching a movie, reading a book, or doing anything else that I am absorbed in around feeding time, things start thumping and crashing to the floor until she has my attention.

If I am in the kitchen, she paces back and forth in front of the cupboards, with commanding glances at me.

But she is also very sweet and affectionate. When she love bombs me at my desk and it is not feeding time, I know that the affection is sincere and that she is not just carrying out feline suck up behavior.

Also, if I am up longer than she thinks I should be, she paces around the bed. As soon as I lie down on it, she leaps onto it and snuggles my face.

The one thing that she has never done in her 7 years is to wake me up for her feeding, even when I oversleep. But, as soon as I am up, she rushes to the kitchen to pace in front of the cupboard.

She also does something that is unique and amusing. When she is really eager for feeding, like when I oversleep, and she sees me getting her food out, her tail goes straight up in the air and vibrates, from her rump to the tip of the tail. She is 1/4 Egyptian Mau and that trait is unique to Maus, referred to as the Mau wiggle tail. They do it when they are very excited about something that they anticipate.

She also does it sometimes when she sees that I am going to interact with her with one of her favorite toys.

My cat is the last of her generation. We had a boy cat who was the smartest non-verbal pet I've ever had and I still miss him terribly. He was an only cat for almost 2 years. Current kitty was a stray who came to the house. We brought her in, and our boy cat was fascinated immediately. We always called the stray his pet, and she behaved like she was his pet, not much interaction with us humans. He died about 3 years ago. We had another girl cat we adopted from the shelter in 2014, and she and the stray hated each other's guts. The shelter kitty passed away about a year after the boy cat. Our stray's personality really developed after she became an only cat. She isn't exactly affectionate, but she expects me to fulfill her needs. The boy cat groomed her, at least her head and face. She is long-heaired and doesn't do much of that for herself. I have an array of brushes, have to brush her several times a day. I cut clumps of hair off her almost every day. I've been giving her weekly half baths for almost 2 years, and recently started wiping her face with a warm, damp cloth. I refuse to do more! lol She lets me know if she is ready for the bath. I think it makes her feel more comfortable.

Cats are cats, but every one of them is unique.

any generally shared traits.

Your stray sounds like quite a gal. She also must have felt some loss when her feline admirer passed away. Looks like she wants you to replace the affectionate care that she got from him. It makes her feel accepted and loved, so I hope you keep up the good work with her.

Bowls of dry in dog-safe zones, water bowls here and there, river in backyard. They get wet food every 2-3 days at random times of the day. All I have to do is call them at the side door and everyone arrives w/in a minute or two.

If it gets close to 4:00 and we haven’t taken her out yet, she will sit in front of one of us and stare. She seems to know when it’s 4:00 somehow.

We feed her when we eat dinner so if it’s getting close to dinner time she will sit in front of my husband (usually, since he is the one who gets her dinner) and start with a little “arf, arf” which will gradually progress to a “WOOF WOOF” until dinner is served!

That’s a pretty good setup that your cat reminds you when to take your pill!

Same thing happened last night when I got too involved in watching Ari Melber. I suddenly heard a series of things fall to the floor.

So I have a curfew. The nagging is incessant. He keeps pretending he needs to go outside, then straight back inside to the bottom of the stairs. it's amazing how he can express 'demanding' and 'desperation' at the exact same time.

Then he tries to drink all the cat's water in the bathroom (he has his own fresh water downstairs, but you know it's not as good) and keeps trying to convince me to go to the bedroom.

I'm being nagged right now.
